After a process of discernment, the congregation of First Christian Church voted on July 8th, 2022 to adopt the Open & Affirming welcome statement that follows:
At First Christian Church our mission is to know God and follow Jesus Christ, who calls us to be an Open and Affirming, inclusive faith community. We celebrate God's boundless and unconditional love by intentionally welcoming and affirming all people, as God embraces us. We welcome persons of every age, sexual orientation, gender identity, race, ethnicity, nationality, ability, relationship status, family structure, economic status, and educational level into the full life of our congregation. Our paths may differ, but we journey in faith together. Wherever you are on life's journey, you are welcome!
We followed the process suggested by AllianceQ, the Open & Affirming Ministry Program of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) throughout our exploration of becoming an Open & affirming congregation. The Mission of the Open & Affirming Ministry Program is to build a Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) that welcomes persons of all gender expressions and sexual orientations to the table of Christ’s communion and to the full life and leadership of the Christian Church. Open & Affirming Ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) have committed to openly welcoming and affirming persons of all gender expressions and sexual orientations.
