Worship is where our faith community gathers in thankful praise of God and communion with Jesus Christ in a spirit of unity bound together by the Holy Spirit. Every week we break bread and drink from the cup at the Lord’s Table, offer our prayers and supplications, and receive inspiration from the light of Scripture and hear informed preaching.
Traditional in style and fresh in spirit describes both worship services at First Christian Church. Both services offer hymn singing, organ and piano music, choral music, a sermon for the day based upon lectionary texts of scripture, and weekly communion. The seasons of Lent, Easter, Pentecost, Advent and Christmas are observed, offering variety to the liturgical year’s worship.
The 8:30 a.m. worship service is more streamlined in its liturgy accompanied by piano and soloist, feeling more casual yet intimate, as the clergy lead without robes and preach from the sanctuary floor.
The 10:30 a.m. worship service feels more majestic and grand with clergy in robes, organ accompaniment, a choir anthem, a children’s moment, and additional responses or hymns. Both services glorify God with different nuances.
Nursery care is provided by trained attendants for infants through pre-school aged during worship services and all church activities. The nursery is located on the second floor of the Lemmon Education building.
Children’s Worship is held on Sunday mornings during the 10:30 a.m. worship service. Children in Kindergarten through the 5th grade are invited to go with leaders to the 3rd floor of the Education building for their own worship time followed by constructive craft, reading, and play time. Children’s Worship is a “kid-friendly” time of worship that includes songs, a devotion, prayers including The Lord’s Prayer and offering. Children go to Children’s Worship following the Children’s Moment in the 10:30 service.
